Let’s start out by stating the best treats for your puppers are fresh fruits and vegetables; watermelon, blueberries, apples, bananas, carrots, green beans are healthy, nutrient rich treats can make a positive impact on their overall health.
Remember moderation is key.
Quick Recipe: Just like when we were kids, peanut butter in celery is a great treat, and you can share with your fur baby.
Some dogs, like Hazel, don’t like fruits and will only eat cooked veggies mixed in with her food. Granite, on the other hand, loves watermelon, strawberries, blackberries and he will pick manzanita berries off the bush. They both love cookie treats, however, Granite’s gained a few pounds since being at the store.
So, we’ve been focusing on higher protein, limited ingredient treats, and we’d like to share it with you.
Our treat with the highest protein is the Glazed Beef Cheek Roll and the Puffed Collagen Spring at 75% protein. These chews can keep your doggo busy for quite some time and can be good for their teeth and gums.
The next highest protein treat is the Northwest Natural Freeze-Dried Beef Liver at 64% protein. Beef liver is especially rich in Vitamin A, copper and iron — making these healthy dog treats a boost of nutrition in every bite. Again, moderation is key.
Next is Stella & Chewy’s Meal Mixers Chicken at 48% and Earth Animal No-Hide Chew at 45%. Stella & Chewy’s is marketed to kickstart your kibble, it has a recipe with one protein and a variety of fruits, vegetable, vitamins and minerals. The No-Hide Chew has a simple recipe of brown rice flour, agar-agar, eggs, peanut butter, olive oil and banana powder.
